Credible or Possible Threat to NYC Subways?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has handed Fernando Ferrer a rare and precious gift in the heat of the mayoral race - a real issue. Bloomberg's refusal to participate in tonight's Apollo Theater debate poses a valid question: What's he afraid of?

The 90-minute debate, which will be televised live on NY1 starting at 7 p.m., will feature the Democratic challenger, Fernando Ferrer; the Conservative Party challenger, Thomas V. Ognibene; and an empty podium, installed by NY1, as a tweaking reminder that the Republican incumbent is bowing out of the forum.
In 2001, Mark Green was at this point in New York City and then we had 9/11 "which changed everything."
