A Curious Thing Happened Yesterday

Massive street marches to protest a proposed crackdown on illegal immigration have energized U.S. Hispanics and may signal a new day of Hispanic political involvement.

The demonstrations, which attracted both legal and illegal residents across the country, mean politicians may face an angry Hispanic electorate in which Republicans would be the biggest losers, activists said on Monday.

And interestingly enough, what did the President comment on yesterday?

"We hear in Washington, you know, 'prevention means force,"' Bush told students and faculty at Johns Hopkins University. "It doesn't mean force, necessarily. In this case, it means diplomacy."

Bush joined aides in playing down prospects for military action against Iran, saying, "I read the articles in the newspapers this weekend. It was just wild speculation."

Oh yes, Mr. President, with millions of people blogging and writing about your proposed plans with Iran...of course you had to do some back paddling.

The BASE really does have more power than it realizes and that base includes IMMIGRANTS. The Democratic party has been handed a gift from God with George Bush. John says:

Remember when the war on terror was Bush's strong point? Now even Republicans are willing to call Bush incompetent on that very issue. Before Rove and Mehlman wake up later this summer and yet again try to brand Democrats as wimps. And before Democrats find themselves facing another congressional resolution authorizing force against Iran. We need to unify and strike back hard, and now, against a president who is both hated by his own party and falling apart at the seams.

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.
